Our Mission
To provide high-quality education and continuous support to empower individuals with Down syndrome and their caregivers.
Based on a study conducted by McKinsey & Company in 2009, there are over 25,000 individuals with Down syndrome in Saudi Arabia, and 85% of them have not received specialized educational services. This alarming percentage highlights the urgent need for serious efforts to develop solutions and strategic plans to address this challenge. Despite the widespread presence of Down syndrome, most people still lack sufficient knowledge or information about the condition.
There is also no accurate database or statistics on the number of individuals with Down syndrome in the Kingdom. However, it is globally recognized that approximately one child is born with Down syndrome in every 700 natural births. This rate is relatively high, which should make encountering individuals with Down syndrome a normal part of daily life. Unfortunately, that is not the case due to extremely limited inclusion opportunities.
At Sawt, we are working to change that and tackle the challenge through:
-
Providing care and services for individuals with Down syndrome and their caregivers
-
Developing impactful services and programs for individuals with Down syndrome and their families, including training and consultations for various centers to exchange expertise and promote best practices in supporting the community
-
Creating innovative products targeted at individuals with Down syndrome, their caregivers, and relevant stakeholders in the sector
-
Continuously evaluating the effectiveness of programs and services to ensure measurable positive outcomes for individuals with Down syndrome, their caregivers, and related entities
-
Building strategic partnerships with specialized and enabling entities
We aim to achieve our vision and mission through strategic collaborations with global and regional sector experts, research and academic institutions, policymakers, private sector players, and individuals to align efforts and mobilize support for Down syndrome causes. -
Raising awareness and encouraging community participation
We work on developing strategies and plans to increase awareness and boost community involvement by launching volunteer opportunities and programs.
The sense of independence and self-reliance builds self-confidence, dignity, and the respect every individual with Down syndrome deserves. To achieve this goal, we organize workshops, awareness lectures, events, and conferences, and distribute informative brochures in schools, companies, and various sectors.
